Hey guys!

I had a few friends who asked me about a little hobby I have, or should I say little obsession. Entering my home you’ll notice that I have a lot of elephant art and ornaments. So today I thought I’d share with you guys the secrets to my Elephant collecting habits and maybe you’ll find yourself getting interested in a hobby like mine.

The obsession started when I was a little girl when my mother told me the story of the lucky elephants. The lucky elephants is a tradition in our family where one must collect 8 elephants each with their own unique property.

They believe that if you are able to collect the 8 elephants you can attract abundance and good luck into your life and home. As I started collecting them I also started learning about these magnificent creatures themselves. Did you know they’re actually quite similar to humans? They can live up to around 80 years old and an 8 year old elephant displays behaviour similar to that of an 8 year old human, they’ll be playful and active and at 13 years of age they’ll hit puberty.

I aim to assist in preserving the real life Elephant population today by buying elephant collectables that donate to Asian and African foundations. Recently a friend told me about an exhibition called “The Elephant Parade” wherein Elephant Art including life size sculptures where all dedicated to developing public awareness about the conservation of elephants all over the world. The last exhibition was held in Singapore, and previous to that in London. Hopefully next time I’ll get to go to one and support their cause.

But back to collecting elephant art and ornaments. There are some rules that’ll help guide you when collecting them.

Collecting Rules:

Never place an elephant facing the door otherwise any good luck coming into that room will go right back outside as the trunk of the elephant is pointing outwards, always place elephants facing inside your home.
Placing a pair of elephants in the bedroom promotes love and faithfulness between two people.
They can act as the grantor of wishes and as the protector of the household. Place some at your front door.

I have well succeeded collecting 8, and made the tradition my own by adding more rules. Each elephant has its own story. I bought one at a market, another at a hobby store and I have one made of fabric, of stone, one is a lamp, another a bag…It is really quite fun once you get going. There’s so many creative ways to collect them.
