Favorite Romance Anime
I am a secret otaku, ok it’s out there. I love romantic comedy anime! Who doesn’t love the feeling of falling in love and watching your favourite characters fall in love too? I watched the following animes during my highschool and uni days hehe. They’re oh so cute
Click on the titles of each anime to link to their respective plot and storyline/synopsis guides
1. Itazura Na Kiss
I love this anime because it gives you a sense of closure, you get to watch the characters grow up and start their own family. It’s sweet, funny and you root for the heroine the whole way.
2. Fushigi Yuugi
Who doesn’t know this anime? It was made like a decade ago, but it’s one of the best. Magic, mystery, and guys galore, the heroine can be a tad annoying at times (pretty immature) but she grows up over the series, and the leading lads more than make up for where she lacks in charm.
3. Paradise Kiss
A more mature love story, Paradise Kiss isn’t afraid to be eccentric or outlandish, in fact pretty much all the characters are pretty much that. They talk sex, growing up and find yourself. A coming of age love story.
4. Ayashi No Ceres
One of the first romantic animes I watched. There’s violence and crazy things going on in this anime, but the love story is beautiful and powerful.
5. Ouran Highschool Host Club
For a laugh you have to watch Ouran, as the series progresses you’ll fall in love with each of the characters and their stories. A more light hearted romantic comedy.
6. Hanasakeru Seishounen
Sometimes serious, other times funny, this anime has quite a few episodes so you really get to know each character rather well. The love stories are sweet once again, and of course a stellar male leading cast.
7. Fruits Basket
There is poignancy between the humourous lines of this anime. While at times comedy rules this anime, in between the lines you can’t help but notice the sensitive undertones that give this anime heart.
8. Yamato Nadeshiko
You might notice I like the whole male harem plot going on, where there’s a cast of charming lads, and a lady having to choose between them. Yamato Nadeshiko is really fun and also has a lot of heart. With a rather unexpected heroine, you find yourself wanting to help her get out of her wallflower status and you’ll enjoy watching her bloom (pun intended
)
9. Lovely Complex
Another comedy, lovely complex tells the story of a mismatch that just goes so well together.
10. Skip Beat
Focusing on a plot about the characters’ careers’ in acting, this anime is fun, fresh and has just the right dash of adventure in the heroine to make you want to watch the whole series in one night!
11. B Gata H Kei
You can’t help but love how anime always makes fun of sexy fun times in anime. From the stereotypical to the not-so-expected mature jokes, you’ll laugh your head off at how utterly wrong it is, but at the same time so so right!
12. Kimi Ni Todoke
One of the more slow paced picks of this list, Kimi Ni Todoke takes you through the angst of being a teen and not being able to express how you truly feel.
Love anime/manga too? Send your recommendations for me down below in a comment! I’m always looking for something funny, interesting and super dooper romantic to watch
