Hey y’all! It’s Day 2 of the eight-week blog challenge here on #IslandMeetsCity and it’s the first #TenaciousTuesday and I’m feeling pumped. For the past year I’ve been blessed to finally have a “job” (it could also be seen as a lifestyle) that I love – it’s not without its challenges, but they’re challenges that I appreciate and know I want to grow from. I know not many people are so lucky to have the dream job but the question is why not? Ok, so it’s harder done than said, or was the saying easier said than done?
Nevermind, first things first, do you know what you would love to do? Sometimes I ask friends this, and some don’t really know the answer. It’s okay. Whether you’re in you’re early 20s or your 40s+ there’s always time to find what you want to do (love doing it) and then do it! It’s not going to be easy but like they say, nothing worth having is ever easy, you gotta work for it, and in the midst of working towards your dream, you might actually find it was a lot “easier” than just sitting on the sidelines dreaming. Doing what you love isn’t a chore – because you love it!
I’ve read so many blogs, articles, books etc. etc. talking about your ideal job, client, lifestyle, etc. but what about your ideal you? What do you think is stopping you? It might be financial or emotional, either way think of a plan to get through it. Where there is a will there is a way! That might sound cliché but look at all the ‘greats’ in any field – overcoming obstacles, fears, perceived set backs – that’s what made them great! No excuses! I’m not going to name names, I’m sure there’s at least one person/hero/mentor/idol you can think of and know that their successes didn’t just get handed to them regardless of their status/background, it took their sheer power of will to say, this is what I’m going to do and I’m going to do it! It didn’t take a day, a night, even if some stories look like it. It took preparation. Time. Determination. Passion! And even if it did take little time to attain, it takes time to keep it there too!
From now on, find what you love doing and do it. It might not be full-time now. But that’s the adventure. You are who you want to be. Just outline what it is you want to do, and then everything you do from now is working towards it, random volunteer jobs, it’s not what you do now, it’s what you want to do…even if you’re not a professional photographer (for example if that was your dream to do fulltime) you ARE a photograhper right now! Everything you do, like hobbies etc should be around your passion, then when you make it a career its an easy transition 😉
Remember, life’s too short to be doing something you hate. You’ve got a gift. Use it. Appreciate it. Pay it forward. Work towards doing what you love. Have you got the guts to grab life by the balls? 😛 That’s it for today’s #TenaciousTuesday, refuse to be anything but your best even if you don’t feel you have the support/money/time/excuses/confidence/etc. you can be all you want to be, take responsibility for your life, and as Natasha Beddingfield sings “No one else can live it for you, only you can let it in…the rest is still unwritten” so what are you waiting for? Time to get writing your story…See ya tomorrow!
