Hey hey! Are you ready for #MondayMadness? hehe It’s day 8 of the #IslandMeetsCity #BlogChallenge and today’s project is all about my guinea pig mansion! That’s right you heard right, a guinea pig mansion! If you haven’t heard, well you might as well know now if we’re going to continue this relationship we’ve got going…I’m a bit of a guinea pig maniac. Dear friends who know this already please keep your comments to yourself. “A bit she says…” says my husband. That goes for you too hubby 😛
Totally me 😛
Anyways back to more serious issues. Today I wanted to share with you a major project that has been in development (in my mind) for months. And a couple of weeks ago I finally got the time to do it. It only took about 5 hours lol but to see my puffer’s happy little faces was well worth it, well I think so anyway…don’t ask what my husband thought. As my dad put it, “your husband loves you very, very much”.
If you haven’t heard of a C&C cage, it’s basically a relatively inexpensive cage for your cavies made of “cubes” usually for bookcases like this:
and “coroplast” (the stuff most sign boards are made of, you can even get some for free from your local real estate for boards they’ve finished using)
with the help of a good pair of scissors, box cutter, a pencil, cable ties (totally indispensable) and the cube joiners, you can get something like this!
I originally wanted to do a multi-storey cage unfortunately we ran out of grids, and wanted to give enough space for all the piggies. I’ve got 8 – 5 girls and 3 boys. We temporarily separated one female from the rest, she was losing alot of weight from nursing the babies, so we had to ween them a bit. The other mama didn’t lost any weight. In fact, I think she gained! lol Today they’re all back together though. Will post pics another time. The Boys crib was built on a table, and the girls on an old bunk bed 🙂
Warning you may have a little bit of hairfall during the process…
and I’m not just talking about guinea pig hair…Hayhay…
