Does blogging help me get more followers on social media?

Hi, everyone!

Happy Easter Monday, I hope you’re all having a wonderful day, whether it be with friends and family, or if you’re like my husband and I – working from working from home and loving it!

I often get asked, “Can my blog help me get more followers on social media?”

Ok, so confession time, while I’ve been ghost blogging for other businesses for almost 5 years now, I only just started writing my own. I, too, am learning and growing my audience on social media, but from my experience working with other’s social media and blogs – yes, your blog can bring you more followers!

Having a valuable blog can be time-consuming but the pay-off can be significant. It’s a great way to generate traffic to your website and increase fans and followers! Why? because in your blog you can provide valuable, shareable content that people want follow. You might already have social media set up – but what do you share?

You need content to share on your social media? Share your blog! What’s even better is that blog content brings readers back to your site and encourages them to know you and your business better – they’ll think of you when they are looking for a similar product or service.

Here are some tips I’ve collected over the years to increase your social following using your blog:

Everyone loves to share great content and when your fans’ friends see that great content, they want to share it too (they may even “like” your page”). How do you create “shareable content”? Think of something that would be valuable to your audience, look at your competitors, what’s a pain that you know you can solve? Make it interesting, use a story that makes it relatable to your audience. People love to share how-to guides and tips or see behind-the-scenes of your business.

Whenever you want to share a blog you’ve written on your site, make sure to include #Hashtags when you’re sharing it. What are some hashtags that people in your industry use? If you don’t know what ones are used in your industry, check out what hashtags your competitors use.

Images are the most shared piece of content on social media – which is probably why Instagram and Pinterest have done so well.

While I was contracting for a digital agency I heard the anagram “CTA” all the time – and I understand now how important a CTA really is. If you ask your Fans/Followers to Check-out your post, Share, Like or Comment, they are more likely to do it (and if you liked this post, please Like and Share this post! :))

Talking about sharing, your site should make it super easy for your visitors to share your content. Install Follow buttons, on the top of your page, to encourage more fans and followers prompt your visitors to connect with you on your social media profiles. Placing Share buttons strategically around your content can motivate your visitors to share it on their preferred networks.
